About Nu Ceramics
Job Summary
We’re looking for a friendly, knowledgeable, and patient instructor to lead our a variety of beginner and specialty classes. These sessions are designed to introduce new potters to the fundamentals of clay. You'll be responsible for guiding students through basic techniques and ensuring a fun, safe, and engaging experience.

Key Responsibilities:

Teach beginner-level wheel & handbuilding classes in a group setting (avg. 6–8 students)

Demonstrate proper techniques for wheel-throwing, trimming, hand-building and glazing

Guide students in creating functional forms such as mugs

Offer individualized feedback and encouragement

Prepare and clean up the teaching area before and after each class

Monitor and maintain a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment

Collaborate with studio staff on scheduling, class planning, and communication

Qualifications:

Passion for pottery and community arts
-
Comfortable working with students of varying skill levels and learning styles

Proficient in wheel throwing, surface finishing techniques, and handbuilding

Strong communication and interpersonal skills
-
Organized, dependable, and able to manage a classroom

Experience teaching or assisting in a ceramics studio setting
Bonus Skills (Nice to Have):
-
First aid certification
-
Experience with kiln loading/firing and studio maintenance
-
Background in art education or similar fields
Compensation:
Hourly rate based on experience, starting at $25/hr for most courses. Clay and studio materials provided. Many opportunities for expanded teaching or workshop facilitation may be available. Additional technician duties may be available at a different hourly rate. The compensation package may include personal studio space, access to materials, and other benefits.
